A Healthier Life Starts with
Better Sleep
There is a tiredness that runs deeper than a busy schedule. It lingers in your body, disturbing your thoughts and making even the simplest tasks feel harder. Many people chalk it up to stress or aging. However, it's the result of poor sleep that never fully restores itself in many cases.
Your brain and body miss the recovery they need when your sleep cycle is interrupted. This can weaken the immune system, heighten stress hormones, and interfere with memory, focus, and emotional regulation. Even your heart and metabolism can be affected. At Premier Psychiatry, we know that good sleep is about more than just rest — it's the foundation of long-term health and peace of mind.
It's time to take a closer look if your sleep feels off.

Sleep Disruption Affects More Than You Think
You may not realize how deeply sleep affects your day until it starts slipping away from you.Small things like forgetting a word, feeling snappy with loved ones, or drifting at the wheel can begin to feel normal, but they are not signs of weakness. They are signals from your body that it's struggling to recharge.
Not having enough sleep quietly affects nearly every system in your body, from your mood and digestion to immunity and decision-making. It doesn't just affect you — three out of five adults say poor sleep has caused conflict in their closest relationships. At Premier Psychiatry, we're here to help you discover what's going on and guide you toward lasting relief.

Signs & Symptoms of Sleep Disturbance
The quality of sleep can impact our overall health, quality of life and safety. It is quite common to experience sleep disturbance at one time or another in life. The disturbance may be as a result of factors such as stress, long distance travel, life interruption and illness, or technology in the bedroom. Sleep disturbance becomes an issue when it becomes frequent and starts interfering with our daily routine. In spite of many sleep studies and efforts by sleep clinics and sleep doctors, the disturbances remain a big concern.
According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), about one third or slightly over 100 million US adults get less than the recommended 7–8 hours of sleep. Sleep deprivation is linked to several health issues, including obesity, chronic disease, low testosterone, atrial fibrillation, ED, depression and heart disease. The other problems caused by inadequate sleep include impairment at work, memory problems and high risk of car accidents. Below are common signs and symptoms of sleep disturbance:
Types of Sleep Disorders
Sleep apnea
A disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts.
Narcolepsy
A chronic disorder that causes an extreme tendency to fall asleep.
Insomnia
A disorder that causes an inability to fall or stay asleep.
Restless leg syndrome
This condition causes an uncontrollable urge to move the legs.
Sleepwalking
This is not so much a disorder as it is a serious symptom that can be indicative of another sleep disorder or an unrelated condition or illness.
Excessive sleepiness
This is not so much a disorder as it is a serious symptom that can be indicative of another other sleep disorders.
Shift work disorder
A disorder characterized by insomnia and excessive sleepiness. This tends to affect people whose work hours overlap or are the same as the typical sleeping period.
Snoring
Caused by sleeping on the back, nasal congestion, or alcohol use. Loud snoring may signal obstructive sleep apnea requiring a doctor's visit.
Snoring and Sleep Apnea in Kids
Persistent snoring in children is not normal and may indicate sleep apnea, causing breathing pauses, oxygen drops, and sleep disruptions.
UARS (Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome)
A mild form of sleep apnea often without snoring. Mostly linked to hereditary factors and more common among women.
Children's Sleep Disorders (CSD)
Pediatric sleep disorders caused by underlying medical problems, with symptoms including snoring, sleepwalking, nightmares, and bedwetting.
